Silver Koala Specifications, Information & History

Australian bullion coins produced by the Perth Mint celebrate and honor key features of Australia and its lifestyle. In 2007 the Mint introduced the Silver Koala series minted from 99.9% pure Silver. This followed the popularity of the Gold and Platinum Koala coin programmes.

Like the other Koala coins, designs for the reverse of the Silver Koala coin vary annually, for example the 2008 Silver Koala coin features an image of a mother and baby Koala sitting on a tree branch. Under the image the coins carry inscription of the size and purity – e.g. "1oz 999 SILVER". There are 5 coin sizes available from 1kg, 10oz, 1oz, ½ oz and (from 2011) the 1/10 oz. All coins feature the Ian Rank-Broadley image of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on the obverse side. Surrounding the image is the inscription "ELIZABETH II", "AUSTRALIA", face value and on some coins the Mint Year.

The design of the coin is up to usual fine quality attributed to the Perth Mint and Koala Silver coins are becoming popular among coin collectors and investors alike, although mint numbers vary significantly between years and the sizes, with the 10oz coins having the lowest mint numbers. All coins incorporate the "P" mint mark for Perth Mint and this can be found on the reverse side.
