The Silver Britannia is the official Silver bullion coin of Great Britain. Produced by the Royal Mint in a particular form of silver termed "Britannia Silver" with a purity of .958, it is set apart from many other silver bullion coins of .999 silver purity. Silver Britannia coins were introduced in 1997, ten years after the introduction of the Gold Britannia coins.
From 1999 the Royal Mint has alternated the reverse design for the coin between the “classic” Standing Britannia design and other one-off designs for Britannia. The first non-repeating design was featured on the 1999 Silver Britannia and on alternative odd numbered years since. For the 2011 Britannia family there is a new patriotic design of Britannia, seated amongst the folds of the Union Jack Flag, which was created by the artist and sculptor David Mach RA.
The obverse of the coin features the image of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Ian Rank-Broadley.
